Filming 19/12/13

Today we filmed some footage for our music video. We filmed the footage in the Drama studio using the lights and the technology. We used the lights for camera Fleur and effects.
These are some images from our filming.

We are going to film more but this was our first shoot.

Test Shoot

Today we did a test shoot for our music video. This helped us understand what we need to prepare for when we shoot the real footage as it will save us a lot of time and make the video look better. We played around with the lighting and the different camera angles, we now know what techniques work best.

5/12/13

In today's lesson Nari and I uploaded each frame of the story board to the computer so we could start our animated story board. We nearly finished it all we just need to adjust the timing of the frames to the audio. This will help us as we will get a rough idea of what our music video will look like and what we need to adjust.

Feedback from our Audience Research

1. Female: 5
    Male:4

2. 16-20 it was the most common age group.

3. We asked them what is there favorite genre, pop and indie was the most popular.  This is in our favor because we are making a pop music video.

4. casual/simple/laid-back was the most common personality type.

5. Ed Sheeran was the most common. This shows that we are targeting the right audience and this audience feedback will really help when we are making our music video.

6. Our most popular choice was Ipod

7. We found that the storyline and the meaning behind the video was a common factor that applied to people in music videos.

8.

9. The elements that most people expect to see in music videos was dancing, attractive people-voyeurism and bright colours.

From this audience response we are able to know what our target audience likes and wants in a music video which helps us get more ideas and aspects that appeal to the target audience.

Planning 27/11/13

In today's lesson we finished off audience research, shooting schedule and the deconstruction of the lyrics. As a group we think that the meaning of the song is that he is trying to get his lover back and compares himself to a devil and her to an angel. Suggesting that there is good and bad in a relationship. We planned the days we are shooting and prioritised what we are going film first. From audience research we gained information which we will use for our music video for example, what appeals to them.

Shooting Schedule

We have created a shooting schedule for our group CANZ Productions. This schedule will help us when we are shooting because as a group we know the location of the filming and the description of the filming.

Time Planning

Today we wrote down and discussed all of our free periods in school. We found out that we all have free time on Wednesday's after school which mean this will be our main time to film. We discussed that we will also film during Media lessons and on weekends.

Storyboard

In the two pictures below you can see the storyboard which our group has created. It shows roughly all the shots that we want to include in our music video and gives us a greater understanding of what our product will look like when we make it. We can now make a schedule of what shots we need to film and when we are going to film them.

Permission To Use 'Love Me Again'

We posted a message via Facebook to Island Records (the label John Newman is signed to) to ask for permission to use his song for our music video.

Group Planning Meeting

Today we completed various tasks as a group such as the storyboard, questionnaire and moodboard. This has given us a chance to discuss properly as a group about what we are going to do for the music video and what works best.
Now we need to finish off the storyboard and give people our questionnaires to see what they think about our ideas.
Overall it was a good days planning.

Mood Board for Our Music Video

This is the moodboard for our music video that we are going to be making. It brings in all the ideas we have for the video such as the settings, the lighting, the costumes and the characters. It also shows the smoke machine that we may be using on the stage.
It brings in the idea of the audience and the stage and how it may look.
The smashed vases show what we want to be able to create. We want to smash a vase and film it in order to rewind it to make a reverse effect.
Overall this moodboard will help us to be able understand our ideas more.

Storyboard

In today's lesson we started to make our storyboard for our music video. We looked at our chosen song lyrics to see what kind of shot will suit most with it. We also Brainstormed more ideas about what we could do in the term of the camera movements, the lighting and the audience. We also finally got our cast all set and decided.

Ideas for our Music Video

We have looked at a few videos in our music video genre, to help us get ideas for our own music video.
One of music videos we looked at was 'Where is the love?' by the Black Eyed Peas:

From this video we liked the idea of the children singing the lyrics (1:02) because it is a different approach to singing and not many artists use this technique.

The second video Devlin, runaway:

From this video we got the idea of using different stories with different age groups to use as a sort of a narrative.

We were also inspired by Jessie J 'Wild':

From this we liked the idea of the artist moving the camera with their hand, this inspired to use this technique but when the camera moves rather than move on to the next person it moves to a different scene of the video.

The final music video that we got inspiration from was One Republic 'Counting Stars':

From this video we got the idea of using the audience dancing but it isnt an obvious audience it just looks like people dancing. In our video we want the audience to be dancing around the artist and the band.

Music Video Idea Planning

This is a brainstorm which we created in the lesson. Seeing as we have decided on the song we decided to think up some ideas that we could use for our music video. One idea we had was having a stage with a band and the artist playing. There would then be an audience of people dancing and watching the performance.
Another idea we had as the song is all about 'Loving again' is having couples of all different ages (children, teenagers and adults) arguing. We thought of different places where they could be arguing to set the scene. The children could argue in the playground, the teenagers in a living room and the adults in the kitchen.
We thought of different effects we could use in order to make the band more realistic; lights and smoke machines.
In order for the artist to make a relationship with the audience we decided to make sure that there are shots where the artist is looking into the camera and singing.
These are all initial ideas for our music video which we created as a group.

Our Chosen Song- John Newman, Love Me Again

We have now decided on what song we are going to do. Our chosen song is called
John Newman 'Love me again'.

This song was decided because of the music video which is already in place for it. We didn't think the music video was very good for the song and we felt we could improve it. We have lots of different ideas for different shots and locations. We also have some ideas for special effects such as smoke machines and lights. The song is fast paced which gives us the opportunity to make lots of cuts along with the beat of the music.

Music Video Research

Our group have been watching music videos to help us gather ideas for our video. The videos that we have been watching. Some of the tracks that we have looked at are of an alternative and pop rock genre.

The first track and video we chose was MKTO - Classic

We looked at this music video and track as it is very fun and the song is good and of a popular genre. The  music video that is already made for this song is really good and there are not many things we could improve on so this wouldn't be a good song choice for us. It shows the artist off which makes the audience get involved with the star. There are also many different aspects of the video which are good such as the use of the stage, lights and costumes that we could use in our future music video when we have decided on a song.

The second track that we chose was Passenger - Let her go.

This track is a very good and well known song. The video is not a big video and is a budgeted one. Therefor if we was to choose this song there are lots of ways that we could present it. The song is a very big one however the video isn't known. If we was able to make a great video to this we would recreate the video making it much more fun and interesting. The ideas we have for this video is to create a story in the video and combine it with a band preforming.

John Newman Love Me Again

This track is our last choice for an idea. The track is well known and in the charts at the moment. John newman is a upcoming artist who is growing fast in the music industry.  The track is soulful and the lyrics are very meaningful. The video is yet again very boring and budgeted so there is lots we can do with it. We can create a story, involve different people, get a band together, use , green screening and multi-screening. The ideas we have for this track are endless, as we listend to it we lit up with ideas and wrote many down. This song is most likely to be the one that we are going to work with.
